Whatever reason brings you here, whether it’s research or curiosity or sheer chance, we hope you find something of interest.
Star of the Sea is the newest of the 25 Provinces or Districts that comprise the Marist Brothers, an International Religious Institute of the Catholic Church. You can find this explained on the Institute’s website.
Our Founder was St Marcellin Champagnat (1789-1850).
OUR PROVINCE
The Marists of Champagnat Star of the Sea Province came into existence on 8 December 2022.
It was formed by the reconfiguration of three previous Administrative Units: The District of the Pacific, the District of Melanesia and the Province of Australia.
It is now the newest of the 25 Provinces or Districts that comprise the Marist Brothers, an International Religious Institute of the Catholic Church founded in 1817 by St Marcellin Champagnat SM.
OUR WORK
Across the world there are approximately 3500 Marist Brothers working in 82 countries on five continents including Australia.
We share our mission globally with more than 40,000 lay Marists and together educate more than half a million children and young people.
Across the Star of the Sea Province there are 259 Marist Brothers and more than 1500 lay people sharing in our mission in education, social justice and supporting the poor and marginalised.
MARIST LIFE & SPIRITUALITY
Marist charism & spirituality is dispersed in many ways including in consecrated life, and the association of Lay and Brothers.
Marists belong to one of the rich spiritual families in the Church. Their personal faith, manner of sharing in the mission of the Gospel and means of forming Christian community are all shaped by the spiritual way introduced into the life of the Church by Marcellin Champagnat.
