Br Darren Burge meets new Aspirants and visits Colégio Marista Lautem during Timor-Leste visit

Br Darren Burge, Provincial of the Star of the Sea Province, was in Timor-Leste last week, where he met with Bishop Leandro Maria Alves and visited the three Marist Brothers’ communities in Triloka, Teulale and Lautem.

As part of his visit, Br Darren spent time with the aspirants at Casa Marista Teulale. The aspirants introduced themselves in English, a language they study alongside other subjects during their aspirancy, and shared a little about their families and the districts they come from.

Br Darren encouraged the aspirants to remain committed to their studies and to take seriously this first stage of their formation as they discern their vocation.

He also visited Colégio Marista Lautem, the only Marist school in Timor-Leste. It was Br Darren’s second visit to the school, where he was welcomed by staff and students. The students presented him with a ceremonial tais and performed traditional cultural dances as part of the welcome.

After meeting with the Brothers and staff, Br Darren visited the classrooms and spent time meeting and speaking with students.

The visit gave Br Darren an opportunity to see the work of the Brothers across Timor-Leste and to spend time with the communities, students and young men at different stages of their Marist journey.
